Grey Preselection | Field Days, Liberal Leaders, Crystal Brook Show and 3G

The past two weeks have been productive as Bonnie and I travelled extensively throughout our Grey electorate. We’ve had the privilege of engaging with members across all five state electorates, reinforcing my commitment to understand and to address the many needs of regional South Australia.

We’ve seen some welcome rainfall across the electorate, a short reprieve to an otherwise challenging year for farmers. I’ve included a table of the past week’s rainfall totals at the bottom for you stickybeaks.

The Crystal Brook Show was a great success, with sunny weather drawing good crowds. The shearing contests were, as always, a highlight. We are coming into the busy period for livestock producers, with shearing and ram sales.

The Cleve Field Days were excellent, despite weather on Tuesday and Thursday affecting attendance. On Thursday, Bonnie and I were with members in the GPSA tent when a wall collapsed due to the wind, fortunately no one was hurt.

In party news, we welcome Zane Basic, who yesterday became our Federal Candidate for Mayo. Mayo, like Grey, has a range of industries including livestock, wine, fishing, cropping, and tourism. I’m looking forward to campaigning alongside Zane on regional issues, as we win back Mayo, and retain Grey.

We also congratulate Vincent Tazia on becoming our new state leader. Vincent’s appointment brings fresh energy to our team, as we continue to hold Labor accountable to there many failings – particularly in regional South Australia. I’d like to acknowledge the significant contribution David Speirs has made over the past two years as opposition leader. It’s a challenging role, especially when faced with a less than favourable media landscape.

On Friday, Penny Pratt hosted Matt Cowdrey, Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations and the Public Sector, for a lunch session in Clare focused on small business in the regions.

Key topics included the issue of city-centric overspending on state infrastructure projects and questionable decisions on roads and roundabouts in the Adelaide Plains. These discussions are vital in keeping our Liberal members informed about Labor’s shortcomings so they can hold the Government to account.

The closure of the 3G network has been delayed from another two months until 28 October. This gives farmers, fishermen and others more time to transition connected sensors and devices to 4G and 5G networks – that is, if you have access…

As a reminder, the preselection is set for Sunday, 15 September in Port Augusta.

I look forward to seeing many of you there as we work together to ensure strong representation for Grey.

As always, if you have any thoughts or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to listen and learn from you.
